Majestic Giants

"A grove of giant redwoods or sequoias should be kept just as we keep a great or beautiful cathedral. The extermination of the passenger pigeon meant that mankind was just so much poorer; exactly as in the case of the destruction of the cathedral at Rheims. And to lose the chance to see frigate-birds soaring in circles above the storm, or a file of pelicans winging their way homeward across the crimson afterglow of the sunset, or a myriad terns flashing in the bright light of midday as they hover in a shifting maze above the beach—why, the loss is like the loss of a gallery of the masterpieces of the artists of old time."

— Theodore Roosevelt

Ocean Blue

Roll on, deep and dark blue ocean, roll. Ten thousand fleets sweep over thee in vain. Man marks the earth with ruin, but his control stops with the shore.

Watercolor Portrait

And here in my solitude I can grow stronger. Poetry seems to come of itself, without effort, and I need only let myself dream a little while painting to suggest it. * Paul Gauguin

Watercolor Gesture Drawing

Painting Live model
I love the opportunity of painting from life. I like the challenge of quick gestures...I think it actually captures the essence of the model and allows you to let go.

Twitter Art Exhibit in Norway

My hats off to a wonderful gentleman by the name of David Sandum. There was a call to artists for the 2nd annual Twitter art exhibit held in Norway. He is raising money for another local charity: The Women's Crisis Center in Moss, where abused women and children can get help. The center also provides a 24 hour phone-service, counseling, food and shelter etc. It but has lost a lot of funding the past year and the staff has been cut from 19 to 11. This is a very important cause, not only for the women in a crisis situation but also for their children. See their website visit at: http://www.moss.kommune.no/artikkel.aspx?MId1=5277&AId=2515
